Research-based score out of 10. The overall score is the average of the four parts below.
- Open design suits large breeds
- Entrance stays open at all times
- 12 L waste drawer
- 90-day returns
- Multi-cat support described inconsistently
- "Any clumping litter" becomes "clumping clay only" in the FAQ
- 13.8 in entrance is high for kittens and old cats
- Needs about 3 ft by 3 ft of floor
The short answer
Consider it if
- You have a large cat that will not fit in an enclosed globe litter box.
- You have one or two adult cats in good health.
- You already use clumping clay litter.
Skip it if
- You have a kitten under six months, or a senior cat that struggles to climb.
- You use crystal, pine, tofu or lightweight litter.
- Your litter corner is smaller than a square yard.
Is it multi-cat or not?
The product is titled "Scooper Open-X (Multi-Cat)" and costs $199. A single-cat version appears on the same page at $169. So far so clear.
Then the product details describe the Open-X as suited to single-cat households and say multi-cat recognition can be unlocked for a one-time $30 fee. The $30 gap between the two versions matches that fee, so the Multi-Cat version probably has it included. The FAQ adds to the confusion by saying the app tracks up to 10 cats in one answer and up to 5 profiles in another.
Measure your floor first
The box is 25.6 in by 23.6 in and 27.5 in tall. CATLINK asks for 6 inches of clearance on every side. Add that up and the box needs about 37.6 in by 35.6 in of floor, a little over a square yard.
The entrance sits 13.8 inches off the ground. A healthy adult cat steps over that easily. A kitten or an arthritic cat may not, and the ramp is a separate purchase shown at $69.99 in one place and $79.99 in another.
Litter, bags and how often you empty it
The product details say the Open-X works with "any clumping cat litter". The FAQ narrows that to clumping clay and tells you to avoid crystal, non-clumping and lightweight litters. Go with the FAQ.
The 12-litre drawer is said to last one cat up to 15 days. CATLINK's FAQ gives 4 to 7 days for two cats and 3 to 5 days for three or more. A roll of 20 liners is included and replacements start at $19.90. The box runs below 35 dB according to the listing, and Kitten Mode must be used for cats under 3.3 lb or six months.

FAQ
Does the CATLINK Open-X work for multiple cats?
The $199 version is titled Multi-Cat, but the details mention a $30 unlock for multi-cat recognition. Confirm with CATLINK before buying.
What litter can I use?
The FAQ says clumping clay only. Avoid crystal, non-clumping and lightweight litters.
Is it safe for kittens?
CATLINK requires Kitten Mode for cats under six months or 3.3 lb. The 13.8 in entrance may also be too high for small kittens.
Did you test it?
No. This review is based on CATLINK's published listing.
Verdict
For $199 the Open-X solves a real problem: big cats that hate enclosed litter robots. The listing is loose about multi-cat support and litter types, so settle those two questions with the seller. The 90-day return window is generous enough to find out whether your cat agrees.
