NordVPN review: what the audits prove, and how the pricing really works

A VPN with repeated independent no-logs audits and a 30-day refund. The low monthly price is a two-year prepayment, and three tiers hide one decision.

We reviewed NordVPN on 9 October 2026 using its public documentation and third-party reporting on its audits and plans. NordVPN's pricing page blocked our automated reader, and its prices change by week and by country, so we do not print a price. We have not run speed tests.

Pros
  • No-logs policy checked by outside auditors several times
  • Servers run from memory, with no hard disks
  • Up to 10 devices on one account
  • 30-day money-back guarantee
Cons
  • Lowest price needs two years paid up front
  • Renewal price is higher than the first term
  • Three tiers make the choice look harder than it is
  • Full audit reports are only available to account holders

The short answer

Consider it if

  • You use public Wi-Fi often and want your traffic encrypted.
  • You want a VPN whose no-logs claim has outside evidence behind it.
  • You are comfortable paying for one or two years at once.

Skip it if

  • You expect a VPN to make you anonymous. It hides your traffic from your network and your address from websites. It does not hide you from sites you log in to.
  • You want to pay month by month at a low price.
  • You only need a password manager or cloud storage. Buy those separately.

What the no-logs audits show

Every VPN says it keeps no logs. The claim is worth something only when an outside firm checks it. NordVPN has had its no-logs policy examined several times, first by PricewaterhouseCoopers and more recently by Deloitte, with the latest assurance report published in early 2025 according to third-party coverage.

Understand what such a report is. The auditor inspects server configuration and procedures over a set period and states whether they match the policy. It is a snapshot, and the full reports are available only after signing in to a Nord account. It is still far more than most competitors offer.

Two structural points support the claim. The company is registered in Panama, which has no mandatory data-retention law for VPNs. And its servers run from memory with no hard disks, so nothing survives a reboot.

How the pricing works

VPN prices are advertised per month and charged per term. Third-party reports in 2026 put NordVPN's cheapest plan at around $3 a month. That figure applies to a two-year plan, and you pay the whole amount on day one. Three dollars a month for 24 months is about $72 before tax.

Question to ask at checkoutWhy it matters
What is the total charged today? This is the real price. Ignore the monthly figure.
What will it renew at?The renewal rate is higher than the introductory rate.
Is auto-renewal on?It is by default. Set a calendar reminder a month before the term ends.
Are there "extra months"?Promotions add free months, which changes the monthly maths but not the total.

The 30-day money-back guarantee makes the long term less risky. Use the first month to test it on every device and service you care about.

Which tier do you need?

The plans stack. Basic is the VPN. Plus adds Threat Protection Pro, which scans downloads for malware and blocks trackers, along with the NordPass password manager and a breach scanner. Complete adds 1 TB of NordLocker encrypted cloud storage.

If you came for a VPN, Basic is the VPN. Buy a higher tier only if you would otherwise pay for a password manager or cloud storage, and compare the price difference with buying those on their own.

Sources disagree on the size of the network, quoting 8,900 to 9,000 servers and between 129 and 130 countries. The exact count changes often and matters less than whether there are fast servers near you, which the refund period lets you check.

FAQ

Is NordVPN really no-logs?

Its no-logs policy has been examined by independent auditors several times, most recently Deloitte. That is strong evidence, though each audit covers a set period.

How much does NordVPN cost?

The lowest advertised monthly price applies to a two-year plan billed up front. Look at the total charged today and the renewal rate.

Which NordVPN plan should I buy?

Basic, if you only want the VPN. Plus and Complete add a password manager, malware protection and cloud storage.

Did you test it?

No. This review is based on public documentation and third-party reporting. We did not run speed tests.

Verdict

NordVPN's privacy claims have more outside evidence behind them than most, and the 30-day refund lets you test it properly. Read the checkout page for the total and the renewal rate, start with the Basic tier, and set a reminder before it renews.
